The Irish Ball on March 17, 2009 was a great success with over 90+ people in attendance. Special thanks to the McGraths for hosting this gathering. Best costumes of the night were Michael Homer as an aging leprechaun, Roland Namvedt as an Irish Farmer & Dr. Bill Gorby with the outstanding green hair-do. Great appreciation goes to Tyler Weeks & Leslie Weil who provided the live musical entertainment; the McGraths for sharing their Shillelagh (Irish War Club); the Yellow Trefoils plant (shamrocks); and the ceremonial folding of the tri-color Irish flag by our men with military backgrounds. The corned beef, cabbage, carrots, potatoes & Irish Soda Bread were absolutely delicious! We were glad to have all the Green Irish and Orange Irish Bayshore representatives for this peaceful & private gathering! Thank you Helen & Larry & everyone who attended! Helen also provided Irish food for the staff the following day – very thoughtful!
The Fire Alarm System is in full Operation as of 4/7/09. This is a wonderful upgrade to Bayshore. Remember to always use the stairs in the event of a fire! DO NOT OPEN your hall door if you burn something, this will set off the system- wide alarm. A certificate will be available to provide your insurance company, which may qualify you for a discount on your personal content insurance policy.
Insurance Settlement on April 9, 2009 by Landmark American Insurance Company. Bayshore received a favorable settlement of $6 million of which the Bayshore attorneys are to be compensated at 33 1/3%. Special thanks to Chuck Conditt, Fred Gund & Ray Hickey for their tenacity & willingness in charting this course to a successful conclusion.
Wisdom In this forward process, we desperately need less jargon, more common sense, less heat and more light
Flatscreen Television The new flatscreen TV for the common area has arrived and residents are eagerly looking forward to this attraction. Let the games begin as the community begins to enjoy it! If anyone would like to donate, call Larry Green at 850 554-8684, please do your part to complete & pay for this project.
Changing of the Guard Doorman Carl Odom is retiring in May and will be replaced by Nick Lorenzo as a daytime doorman. Thank you Carl for your yrs. of service to Bayshore.
Sage It is not what you say or what you do, but how you make people feel.
New Restaurant in Area A new restaurant in the neighborhood is the Grape Garden, a Chinese Restaurant; Eat In & Take Out located in Southgate 400 North Navy Blvd. Open 6 days a week, Mon-Sat. Tip The Mongolian Beef is excellent.
Tummy-Protecting Veggies Stock upon vegetables rich in natural nitrates such as spinach, beets, lettuce & radishes, especially if you take Ibuprofen or another NSAID. They may help ward off pill-related ulcers by speeding up the renewal of the stomach’s protective lining.
Wish List Someone to start up a card or game night!
Beach/Water Sightings A group of stingrays were seen near the end of the pier this month. Knowledgeable area boatmen have said that the flounders will follow them out of the Pass. Two of the most loyal Bayshore fisherman is Paul Fisher and Warren Harding; the crab nets area already out too.
SUN Living in Sunny Florida, we all need to protect ourselves against sun damage & cancers. Drug stores have a new 70 Sun Protection Factor (SPF) nonformula this year, this is a prudent purchase.
Special Thanks to Sally Johnson who painstakingly recovered and restored many of the old Bayshore photos and created an album. Many of these display the original good taste & elegance of the builders.
Special Kudos to Ruth Mendelson who recovered & repaired a decorative egg on the 2nd floor tree that was damaged. Intentional removal of the nautical-colored Beach Sign and damage to items are also not in the best interest of Bayshore.
Special Cautions
As always, be vigilant of your surroundings and keep alert in the neighborhood.
Residents are using the Bayshore Fitness Room more frequently. This is setting a good example for all of us to get & keep in shape.
