October 2009 Bayshore Breeze Newsletter
...................................................................................... Publishers: Bayshore Residents Volume Number 1 Issue Number 10 Date: October 2009
Board Members: Pres. Ray Hickey, V.P. Chuck Conditt, Treas. Fred Gund, Sec. Larry McGrath, Dir. Joyce Knapp & Dir. Cleon Gomilla.
Roland Namtvedt: A Letter of Resignation as a BOD member was submitted to the BOD prior to the October meeting, effective immediately. The Letter of Resignation cited "usage of insurance settlement money, etc." as an issue. Mr. Namtvedt can be reached at 1-850-457-6711 mornings if you have further questions.
Manager's Report: " Notarial Services are offered free of charge to residents by Manager Jenny Johnson in the Manager's Office. " The Soda Machine was removed from the bldg. due to the Fire Marshal requiring egress & ingress into the Mechanical Room. Also, the vendor had stopped providing a commission to Bayshore. " Wasp & hornets attach to the bldg. A spray is available from the doorman or the janitor can help remove them. However, it is the residents' responsibility to remove these pests from balcony furniture. According to the Pest Control Man, the best time to spray the nest is in the early morning or late evening when all of the pests are in the nest. If you see a nest on your neighbor's balcony, alert them! " All tenants are required to sign a one-year lease - this is a Bayshore Regulation. The homeowner is required to make the Rules at Bayshore available to their tenant with scheduled move in and move out, plus information on Garage & Visitor Parking should also be provided. Remember, a 5 mph in Parking Garage!
Welcome Aboard: Connie Smith in Unit 403 and Jeffery Linbom in Unit 405.
Wellness Clinic: In Sept., this clinic provided Seasonal Flu vaccine, plus pneumonia & Tetanus shots to Bayshore residents! Thirty people attended and now Bayshore has a greater degree of protection against these airborne infectious diseases. Also, PJC Dental Hygiene Clinic was well represented with information on their great services. If you missed getting your flu shot, several drug stores &Wal-Mart are offering them. It is also EXTREMELY important to get a pneumonia shot too. Special Thanks to Robin Homer, RN (Unit 300) who did our blood pressure checks gratis & several others who helped set up, provide a beautiful flower arrangement, baked cookies & cupcakes, plus helped to clean up-this was an all volunteer residents effort. This was a very successful first-time effort as more people begin to understand terms such as Herd Immunity, H1N1, Swine Flu, Seasonal Flu & the word "PANDEMIC." THANK YOU.
Big Birthday Bash: Mr. Larry McGrath will reach the "Big 90" this year. The McGrath Clan is inviting Bayshore residents to the celebration of life party on Nov. 14th in the Patio Room from 6:00 - 10:00 PM. You are all invited to the Big 90 Party! The Irish must have hardy & party genes!
The " Other" Larry: Larry Green researched and purchased the excellent TV in the Patio Room. Several residents quickly stepped forward to help carry the $$ load, but he is still a little short (but not vertically challenged). OK, now find an envelope, pony up with some $$, add a THANK YOU note & slip it under his Unit 1202 door - that's the one with the Tiki Bar Sign. Help carry your load around here in improving the place. THANK YOU FOR YOUR EFFORTS LARRY!
Bayshore Resident involved as a victim in a hit-and-run accident! Rita Finneran, Unit 402 was hit by a vehicle in her workplace parking lot & abandoned. She is now recovering at Baptist Hospital and receiving visitors. Get Well Ms. Rita - we miss you!
Daylight Saving Time ends on November 1, set your clocks back an hour to Standard Time.
Bat Patrol: Numerous bats fly out each night around Bayshore. Lots of bugs are eaten, so we are happy to see them cleaning the air for us, they can be seen from the pool area.
Sage: If you have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other. Mother Theresa
Lighthouse Tours: Open to the Public for Tours, May thru October on Saturdays from Noon to 4:00 PM. The Lighthouse stands a proud 171 feet on a 40-foot-deep granite foundation & is still ACTIVE. It is "supposed" to be haunted too with a "caretaker ghost" & "a young woman ghost." Hurry up, October is the last month it will be open this yr!
Energy Audit: Gulf Powers Co. offers a FREE Energy Audit of your home. Contact them at 850 969-3111, 24 hours a day, and 7 days a week to schedule a visit. This will help individuals reduce their energy consumption and bill. By the way, turn out the lights in the Laundry & Trash Rooms when you are finish!
Seasonal Door Decorations: Well, 3rd floor takes the prize for the most beautiful seasonal wreaths, etc! Lots of doors have nice door decorations such as 208, 205, 300, 301, 302, 406, 508, 602, 606, 707, 804, 901, 903, 1000, 1004, 1006, & 1208. My personal favorite is Unit 604, Kay Stafford's door. It seems there is a contest with 2nd & 3rd floor over who can do the most floor improvements. Residents are encouraged to take an interest in improving the place, especially their floor- let's keep attitude positive!
Elevator Modernization: The Otis Elevator Co. was awarded the contract to modernize the 3 Bayshore elevators. Each one will take 2-3 months to complete and it will probably be finished by June 2010.
